ACHIEVEMENT OF THE WEEK – Lovers In a Dangerous Spacetime

Last Tuesday I picked up Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime as my Tuesday game of the week. It’s a fun little co-op game built around relationships and communication, in space. You can check out my review for it here: iReview – Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime

The nice thing about the game is it’s designed around co-op, so both participants in the game get achievements, which is nice, and sorely lacking from other co-op games: Rayman, and Chariot, to name a few.

Also, there’s co-op centric achievements, like playing the game in co-op, augmenting a turret while it’s being used by your partner, and having two missile turret weapons collide. All original, fun achievements.

The rest of the game’s achievements are dedicated to defeating bosses, and boss specific actions, and collection types. All pretty expected.

I’ve chosen two achievements of the week though, for this game, and both dedicated to the co-op portion. I chose two because they’re similar: play one way with a friend, and try to play the exact opposite.

Achievement of the Week – Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime

106008-hiCouples Dance Lesson – 10G
Pirouette 15 times in a single level.

To get this achievement, you have to cross paths with your partner 15 times during the level. It may not come naturally. Every time the two players cross paths, they perform a little pirouette dance before moving on.

105998-hiCooties – 50G
Finish a level without crossing paths with your partner.

This one is a lot harder to accomplish and will require an effort. Essentially it’s the exact opposite of the achievement above – do not cross paths with your partner. It’s a lot harder than one might think, and both people have to be on the same page to accomplish it – as the levels can get hectic at times.

The rest of the achievements this past 2 weeks were mainly in Lovers, WWE2k15, and Metal Gear Solid V. There was a break for a bit when I went down to PAX 2015.

ACHIEVEMENT OF THE WEEK – Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

So, last weekend, as I had discussed in my Review, I played Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag solidly for 12 hours a day both Saturday and Sunday. I beat the story, and got most of the Achievements I was aiming for. Some are just too grindy and not worth my time: like 100% everything, or upgrading everything. Boring.

The rest of the achievements were pretty easy or were dedicated strictly to the story, therefor unmissable. The two grind achievements I did chase involved the Forts and Naval contracts. As these were by far, the most fun parts of the game, it was a no-brainer.

My achievement of the week though, in this game was a secret one that I would never have thought of to get, as I’m not a drinker:

My Achievement of the Week – Assassins’ Creed IV: Black Flag

84736-hiHungover – 10G
Wake up in a haystack

To get this achievement is actually is quite simple. Throughout the game world in the cities there are bars to unlock. They just require a quick fistfight, and then you’re an eligible patron. To pass out drunk, you just need to keep drinking. Pretty obviously, right? 5 drinks should do it, and then you wake up in the nearest haystack or palm tree pile. Easy 10G. Easily overlooked, as it only requires one drink to get the bartender’s secrets.

This week’s achievements week is a little longer, as I had two lengthily sit-ins with both Assassins Creed and Far Cry 4, completing both. So as to be expected, a lot of unlocking happened. Expect a review for Far Cry 4 soon, but check out my short story from the Far Cry 4: Truth and Justice missions.

A review for Far Cry 4, and then on Thursday I’ll be heading to PAX Prime in Seattle. I don’t know if I’ll be posting anything from the show, but at the least expect a rundown when I come back.

Take care.

ACHIEVEMENT OF THE WEEK – Titanfall

I have recently jumped back into Titanfall, and have been playing that quite a bit. Not really sure why, probably just because of the achievements kept from my grasp. But it’s been a lot of fun. I’ve been playing mostly solo, with Illestrader joining me on occasion.

As the game was recently featured in the EA Access vault as a free game, it feels like there’s been an influx of new players, which is always nice, as well as the the developer, Respawn, releasing all their map pack DLCs for free, when the game reached its one year mark.

You can check out my review here – iReview Titanfall.

There are some tough achievements in Titanfall, and now that there is 3 DLC maps packs, there are numerous achievements to chase, worth a 2000Gamerscore amount. 88 Achievements.

A lot of the achievements are grinding achievements, winning 50 matches in each type of game mode, and reaching Gen10, etc. And throughout the first year of the game, they’ve introduced more game modes, challenges, and Ranked Play. To continually add to the replayability.

My Achievement of the Week – Titanfall

86537-hiMy Generation – 50G
Become a second generation Pilot

To get this achievement, you need to level up your Pilot enough to reach the cap level of 50. This alone will net you an achievement. You then need to choose to regenerate as 2nd generation Pilot. A lot like prestig’ing in Call of Duty, this will reset your level to 1, along with resetting all of your unlocks, and challenges. Essentially starting all over again from scratch, only there’s a nice little 2 Emblem beside your name.

As the achievement of the week feature is not necessarily new games, but my own personal achievements, I’m going to start including a list of the other achievements I unlocked this past week. As my gameplay time differs each week, and achievements vary, this list will always differ in size. I think I might add the category to the top of the page as well, or maybe add a category linkroll on the side.

Sunday, July 12 – Saturday, July 18th

Massive Chalice

  • Graduation Day (Your first hero comes of age) – 10G
  • Foster Home (Adopt multiple children into the same Keep) – 20G
  • Sage, Right? (Appoint a Sagewright) – 10G
  • Golden Anniversary (Survive 50 years) – 20G
  • A Legacy Begins (Receive your first Relic) – 10G
  • The Standard of Excellence (Appoint a Standard)  – 10G
  • Half Full (Survive 150 years) – 20G

Titanfall

  • Stars Shine Brightest (Earn 3 stars for a single map and mode) – 10G
  • Maxed Out (Reached level 50) – 50G

  • I Got This (Complete 100 missions or multiplayer games) – 10G

ACHIEVEMENT OF THE WEEK – Unmechanical

This week’s Achievement of the Week goes to Unmechanical, on the Xbox One, a cute little physics platformer. Recent review here -> iReview – Unmechanical.

This game was a little frustrating when it came to the achievements.

Not that any of them were in any way truly difficult, but just how the value of each achievement was chosen. Typically, achievements are in multiples of 5, so its always nice to end my gamerscore in a 5 or 0.

Unmechanical does away with this trend, and ends the majority of its achievements in 6. Most are actually worth 66G. This is great if I wanted to land on numbers like 99, but I like the clean zeros, where my next milestone is 200,000G. Luckily this game can be 100%’ed.

Achievement of the Week, in Unmechanical:

97889-hiInner Peace – 30G
Balance an object on your head for 10 seconds

Work/Life Balance?

Work/Life Balance?

This is an achievement that is easily miss-able if you don’t know about it. There’s plenty of physics objects to carry around in this game, but the tractor beam is on the bottom of our little robot, so it would counterintuitive to carry something on our head. Counterintuitive: word of the day. ;).

Tomorrow, and the week following is back to news, and new games, and reviews, and progress updates on what I’m playing. I’m also thinking up ideas for a weekly column/opinion article each week.

Lots of things always in store ’round here, just not consistency.

ACHIEVEMENT OF THE WEEK – Call of Duty Ghosts

This week’s Achievement of the Week goes to Call of Duty Ghosts, a game I completed a couple of weeks ago, late, and well past its relevancy, I know.

That’s my thing.

This game takes a little bit of a different route to its achievements than its predecessors. Previous games had an individual achievement for each mission, a veteran difficulty specific achievement for each level grouping, and usually a few skill based achievement (kill so many people in a row with a knife, or 5 guys simultaneously with a grenade).

This time around, each level has 1 or 2 unique achievements, and does away with the Veteran difficult achievements. It’s nice to see they’re not going with the same old tiresome routine. And I’m always glad that they exclude the multiplayer achievements, but this time around they included so new gameplay modes.

I’ve jumped back into the game to wrap up some of the achievements I had missed, and I’ll also be posting the review for Ghosts on Thursday.

So I present my choice for my Achievement of the Week from Call of Duty Ghosts:

Carbon_Faceprint_CoDGCarbon Faceprint – 10G
Catch the photocopier with your face

maxresdefault

On Mission: Federation Day, after repelling out of the building for the 3rd segment, and enemy will trow a photocopier out the window. Just catch it with your face.

I found this achievement pretty funny in name and concept. It’s not necessarily something you’d unlock naturally either.

New news tomorrow, and then the rest of the week happens. See you when I see you.
