New Releases – Sept 15

NHL 16 (PS4, Xbox One) – EA’s annual NHL game is back for a new season, and thankfully fuller than last years bare bones edition. Online Team Play has returned, and EA has bolstered the Be A Pro mode. A new training mode is also available, as a new feature to catch new fans up to speed. NHL is an annual pick-up for me so expect some more impressions.

Forza Motorsport 6 (Xbox One) – Microsoft’s big simulation is back in a big way. 24 opponent races, rain and water physics and night-time races. The career still feels like a checklist and needs an overhaul, but the game is as gorgeous as ever with 1080p 60fps races.

Grand Theft Auto V Online – Freeworld Events (PC, Xbox One, PS4) – Today marks the new Online update. This has me interested in stepping back into the GTA world, and I already own the game.

Destiny: The Taken King (Xbox One, PS4) – The big 2.0 addition is finally here now, with actual story-telling, new missions, a new raid, new weapons, new playable area, new player sub-classes. All the things that will change Destiny is a big way. I’ll be jumping in tonight to transfer everything over  and check it out. Check out future impressions in the weeks to come.

Some newsy type stuff:

Uncharted 4 – Uncharted 4: The Thief’s End will be released on March 18th, 2016. Sept 29th will mark the release of The Nathan Drake Collection on the PS4, remastering 1-3 into one nice package, and to catch everyone up on the series before 4’s release. Uncharted is a great series and one of the real reasons to own a PS3/PS4.

Mortal Kombat X – NetherRealm Studios has confirmed that it is still working on DLC for Mortal Kombat X. This includes new playable characters, skins and a new stage, due out in the first half of 2016.

Metal Gear Solid V – Konami has confirmed it has fixed the bug that plagued the game on all platforms, causing saved games to become corrupt when Quiet was brought along as a buddy on either Mission 29 or 42. The fix is available on the PS4 and PC, and will hopefully be coming to all platforms soon.

This week I will continue to plug away through Metal Gear Solid V and will be jumping back into Destiny: The Taken King. I’ll be leaving my impressions of both, and possibly even writing another story, this one set in MGS V land. The game just lends itself to so many awesome encounters and creative experiences. I’ll also be picking up NHL and I know I’ll be dumping a ton of time into that, maybe even doing my first NHL review. And lastly, GTA V’s Online is calling.

This week’s Preview will focus on one of those games, and the What i’M playing feature will definitely be more MGS V. This is an exciting week to say the least.

  1. Just wanted to pop over and say hey! Great post! I’m debating whether or not I want to start Destiny again, but at this point I don’t know if I’m too far behind or not. I’m pretty deep into Phantom Pain, and I will be picking up the Uncharted collection, so I will be busy…it’s about that time!

    • I hear ya. Destiny is pretty easy to jump back into, imo. It’s a lot of running around to each vendor again, but with the new leveling system, with XP alone you can get up to 40. There’s so much new loot as well.

Phantom pain is a ginormous time sink though. I’m 55 hours in myself, just about wrapping up Chapter 1. Its a huge game.

      • I saw the Taken King the other day when I was buying Super Mario Maker, and I seriously considered getting the ps4 version, but I think I am going to wait a bit on it. I do want to go through the game at some point for sure though, what I played I did enjoy and I’d like to see where the story goes…just soooo many games coming out haha, I’m gonna need a calculator to figure out how to make my gaming time and real life stuff work somehow! I guess I go through this once, if not more times a year, but it’s always exciting to see all the cool new stuff come out! 🙂

      • Absolutely. Sometimes I’m actually thankful when games get delayed, because it leaves some room for some other’s that I want/ going through. I’ve dumped so much time in MGS V lately that I’m apprehensive to look at the list of games I have waiting, let alone the games still expected to release before the year is out.

My goal is to get caught up though, by 2016 with new and old, so that I can start reviewing games in a more real-time fashion.

I have a couple waiting on my shelf, and still a few to pick up, like Mad Max and Tomb Raider when the releases.

      • Tomb Raider! I almost forgot that is coming up pretty soon…I’m so glad they’re continuing the rebooted series, I really enjoyed the last one. In fact I think I enjoyed it about 4 times haha, I kept buying it on all the the consoles! Let me know if you do pick up Mad Max…I’m intrigued. I was really hyped for it when all the “next gen” placeholder cases started popping up. The movie was a letdown for me and then I guess I kinda just forgot about it. Haven’t heard much about it, but I’ve seen a few thumbs up for it.

      • Yeah. Mad Max game isn’t tied to the movie, just in the same world. It was originally delayed for a year, and then sort of popped up again right before it came out, so there wasn’t a huge advertising campaign behind it.

Ill get it before the year is out, but just trying to work through some of my other large open-world games.first. There are a few, and they’re such time-sinks.
